The Brew-News: Pittsburgh’s Finest Microbreweries and Brewpubs
January 31st, 2010 Posted in General, PittsburghIf your a resident of Pittsburgh then you surely know how important beer is to the city. While some time ago, Pittsburgh was a hard working, blue collar city; the glow of the steel mills lit the sky and the sound of blast furnaces resonated throughout the city. It wasn’t all that uncommon to see men getting off of work in the morning and stopping in for a frosty glass of Pittsburgh’s finest. I would like to raise my own glass (Even if it is only 10:ooam on a Sunday) and give cheers to Pittsburgh!
That spirit is still alive today. The microbrewery and brewpub scene has grown and became a well established subculture in Pittsburgh. With the growing of the South-Side Works area hosting some 100+ bars, and also the re-establishment of Penn Brewery; Pittsburgh is kickin’ and growing as a huge brew city. The city also hosts eight different Micro Breweries and Brew Pubs. You can check out www.PubCrawler.com to find a local Brew Pub or Brewery near you. Each listing also has a easy to use interface and link to their own sites along with a well documented contact list. If you are interested in finding more detailed information, or just iffy on spending that extra cash on a case of Samuel Smith’s Oatmeal Stout, be sure to check out www.BeerAdvocate.com. This site is insane! It has all the information that you could possibly want. Every beer imaginable is listed along with a grade for the brew and other users comments to weigh in their thoughts. I prowl the site commonly, so drop me a message! BeerAdvocate.com also has a news section that you can see when up-coming samplings with your favorite breweries are and where they will be held.
This is the first of a many many part series of BREW-NEWS!
Cheers!
